Christmas 'Do #1

We are in a Christmas production this weekend, so we're trying out a few new styles before then.  Here is one that has been done on a ton of blogs in different ways - but here is our "spin" on it for Christmas!

All I did was make six twist braids on the top of her head.

Then I took every other one, and pulled it to one side, and did the same on the other side, securing with a clear elastic. The flowers are clips I put in through the top of each elastic.  Simple, pretty, easy!  If I were to do this for the show, I'd curl the ends of her hair as well.

It's fun to have a princess!

Twists

I found this style here: http://tinydiva.blogspot.com/2010/06/i-want-fabulous-give-me-fabulous.html and although there isn't a step by step on her blog - I did it the best I could.
I should have done step by steps myself - but didn't - I basically made four twists, with four tiny ponies behind to hold them back.  Each of the twists was connected to a tiny pony in the back (just to hold the hair in, now that it is so short!) then I pulled all her hair into a half pony/bun and added the flower.  This one takes a little time, but is worth the effort - and remember, Bee's hair is only just below her ears now - if I can do this on her short hair, anyone can!
Here is how our's came out:

Okay, in this photo, you see the part that goes straight across her head, behind the last twist?  I took four squares of hair, and added each twist to one of them. this held her hair back.  You can sorta see the one all the way to the left.

I also put an elastic at the base of each twist, just to hold it in place better.

This was a little complicated, but turned out really cute, and is still in her hair today.  I'll add a new flower or bow when we go out later - to match her outfit today.

I'm searching for a cute fourth of July 'do...will keep you posted on that.

Another headband

The 'do I did yesterday (which is awake and still beautiful today - we'll just need to curl and fluff the back) is kinda like this one: http://www.princesshairstyles.com/2010/06/woven-hair-headband.html except that I twisted her hair instead of weaving it.  I do want to try it the way that mom did when I have more time to sit. (HA!!) Then I used my curling iron and a little hair spray to flip the ends out instead of under.  I think it turned out really cute! Here's our take on that style:

 Okay, so whenever we do the "last shot" I always tell her to pose however she wants - almost always we get a tongue sticking out - not too sure what's up with that, but it certainly shows her personality!!

As my mom would say, we're a-movin' and a-shakin' around here today. Lots of places to go and things to do.  But we'll be rewarded tonight when we go to a local minor league baseball game. FUN!!!  I'm spoiled and blessed, and feeling quite happy this sunny Friday morning.  Have a fantastic day!

Busy Few Weeks....Take Two!

Maybe this will just be how it is this spring/summer - with being so busy, running here there and everywhere, I just might not have the time I did in the fall and winter to write a blog every day or so.  I might just have to do them in one lump - or do several in one day when I find myself with time. As it is, the "baby" is still asleep and the self sufficient ones are getting themselves around for the day. That leaves me with time to blog.

We had a busy weekend!
We went on a field trip to a semi-local science museum, had grandmas and grandpas come over for Bridgette's recital and celebrated Alexander's birthday (a week early) with them.  At the end of the weekend, Bee got her long awaited hair cut (I make her wait each year until after her dance recital, so I can easily get it into a bun for recital day) and color...it looks adorable!

But...let's back up a minute. I have one final hair post (when I actually remembered to take photos!) for long hair - here it is!

Spring - Warning LONG post - but does include a hair style, I promise!

Ah, spring.  The lovely weather, the flowers, the warm air returns from the south - such a lovely time of the year.  For our family, it also means:

Lots of playdates at the park (this was actually the same day as the previous photos - because I don't usually take my camera every time we go to the park...):

I've found that when I'm busy and set my kids to learning on their own, they come up with things like this:

And somewhere in the past few weeks, my daughter has musically become a 'tween:

And dance practice, and gymnastics, and weight loss meetings (I'm down a total of 28 lbs as of last night's weigh-in!), and church, and picnics, and swim lessons, and a girls weekend, and a trip to Buffalo for Bee, and hanging with these guys:

We made our bun sock a little bit smaller - but here are our results:

I thought this was so pretty - but it was a one day 'do.  By the next day, it had mostly fallen out.  So pretty though, for the day it was in!

I guess this is all to say that we've been busy. Good busy. I'm not complaining - not even a little bit. I'll be the first to tell you that my life is a blessed one.   My hubby is good to me, and as we joke, I'm a "kept" woman.  I've just had less time to blog the past few weeks. Here's to hoping that we get back to it!

A simple twist 'do

This week we needed easy 'dos, as we were still in the thick of our kitchen remodel - which, by the way, is almost done!!  We're down to painting cabinets and polyuothane (sp??)!   Anyhow, back to the point of this post.  I needed an easy 'do, because my time was short.  Then I found this: http://shaunellshair.blogspot.com/2010/02/little-girls-hairstyles-ponytails-with.html The perfect solution when you have only a few mintues to do hair!!   Here's how Bee's turned out:

Okay, so the weird polka-dotty bows need an explanation -  on school days - or really any other day when we don't go anywhere, Bee picks out her own clothing.  On days we go in public, I do it.  You might find this a little controlling, after all she's nine, right??  She should be able to wear what she wants, right???  Just keep scrollling down to see why I pick her clothes when we go out - this is how she dresses herself when left to her own devices - and this is a tame outfit.  I should probably start posting full photos of  "Bee outfits" more often. They are pretty entertaining!  :)   So, back to the bows - not knowing what type of bow/ribbon to use to match this hot mess, I let her decide...thus the polka dot bows.  Enjoy!

Oh, and you're getting a sneak peek of the dining room - we painted it a burnt orange color!

And drumroll, please - the outfit!!!  (And apparently some dance move.)  :)

Our blast with summerish weather is over as of today. Rain will keep us insdie - how about you??  I can't complain, though. We spent the whole weekend outside - we even cracked out the grill!!   Have a great day, and as always, feel free to copy!

Fancy Pony Tail

Let's face it - the pony tail can get a little boring -  but it's classic. Quick, easy, and looks adorable on all little girls!  I found this updo here: http://www.princesshairstyles.com/2009/03/easter-dress-and-fancy-easter-hair.html and decided to do it, but leave the pony tail out.  Because we were headed out by eight a.m., the pony didn't get curled, but I might do that for church in the morning if this style can hold up for two days! This one takes a bit of time (I'd say about fifteen to twenty minutes), but it's well worth the effort.  You can't see all of Bee's twists because of the giant flower I put in her hair - but they are there!  Here's our take on that do:

Bee loved this one, too.  :)  But then - she seems to love them all. I'd recommend doing this with fresh out of the shower hair - it makes it much easier to do the twists and have them stay put!  Have a great Saturday, and as always, feel free to copy!

A Stacy *gasp* Original?!?!

Okay, so I suppose this isn't totally original. All I really did was take a few of the hairstyles I'd already tried, and combined them to make a new one.  First I sectioned her hair in four sections.  I did puffy braids across her head with clear elastics, and ended in a side pony, which I then twisted into twist braids (and secured with more clear elastics).  I added one of our newly created flowers and  - viola!  A princess "do" for dance class!

This was a quick and easy style that I put in about ten minutes before she had to leave for class.  It stayed in all day yesterday as well.  We just switched out the flower for one that would match her outfit.  I'm really loving the clear elastics, because if you do a style that can last several days, you can always just switch out your bow and still have her hair match her outfit.  The best part is, they're cheap, and you can throw them out after one use!!  *Quick Tip* I usually cut the tiny clear elastics out of her hair - much less complaining this way, and it goes much faster!   I hope you all have a great day, and as always, feel free to copy!
